When our CEO and founder Brynn opened Lox in 2006, she had been a vegan for nearly a decade. She was troubled by the waste in the beauty industry and wanted to affect change in a meaningful way. This led her to partner with Green Circle and make Lox Salon the first Green Circle salon in the state of Tennessee.
The beauty industry creates over 877 pounds of waste every single minute. We find this number unconscionable.
Thankfully, Green Circle has given our salon and others the opportunity to mitigate and substantially reduce this number. As Waste Warriors, we are able to recycle and recover 95% of our beauty waste.
According to their website, Green Circle was “created by our Founder and CEO alongside beauty industry leaders, our award-winning program empowers salons to offset their emissions and recover up to 95% of their beauty waste. That includes previously unrecoverable materials and hard-to-recycle items like hair clippings, foils, excess hair color, aerosol cans, and color tubes.” Green Circle uses hair clippings to create hair mats that are in turn used to clean up oil spills, while excess color is repurposed into clean energy.
Impacting the health of the world in a positive way is one of our most important tenants and we pledge to continue this mission. For more information about how we do this, feel free to reach out via our Instagram.
Experts agree; 2022 is going to be all about color.
According to Vogue, “trend predictions for next year are definitely bold and colorful. Having spent so much time at home because of the pandemic, I feel people will want to go very loud.” We’re seeing color everywhere, from the runways of Milan to the sidewalks outside our own salon here in Knoxville, Tennessee.
After years of minimalism reigning supreme, people are ready to express themselves in ways unlike ever before. With the new variant of the pandemic anticipated to peak at the end of January, expect to see an explosion of color as we enter spring.
Have you ever considered fashion colors? Now may be the time to take the leap.
Fashion colors come in all shades of the rainbow. From bright pinks to fiery orange, anything you dream of can be achieved. These colors are semi-permanent and will not permanently change the color of your hair; as such, their upkeep is a little different (read here for our tips for color treated hair) and there are a number of ways to achieve the look.
If you aren’t quite ready to take the full leap, a peek-a-boo moment is a great way to test the waters.
Don’t want to touch your natural hair at all? We can color extensions and blend them into your own hair.
If you’re ready to take the plunge an all over transformation color like the one below is for you.
Pop into 2022 with a beautiful head of color. Head to our Book Now page to make your reservation today.
As COVID-19 cases continue to rise with the advent of the omicron variant, the health of our guests and our staff is paramount. We continue to stress the importance of masks regardless of vaccination status; our Lox Star team is fully vaccinated and masked.
Due to the amount of COVID-19 cases in Knoxville and beyond, stylists now have the individual ability to mandate whether or not their vaccinated guest wears a mask. Please bring a mask to your appointment in the event your stylist asks you to wear one.
Our policy regarding unvaccinated guests remains the same. All unvaccinated guests must wear a mask through the duration of their reservation, no exceptions.
We know this is frustrating and pandemic fatigue has long set in. We feel these same frustrations. However, the health of everyone that sets foot in the salon is our number one priority.
We thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to navigate these uncertain times.
Lox Salon’s Recycling Tips
As a Green Circle salon, Lox Salon safely disposes of 95% of all our waste. Hair clippings go toward cleaning up oil spills and excess color is separated into oil and water, which in turn is processed into clean energy. We get a lot of enthusiastic questions about these processes and have found most people want to help, but don’t know where to start.
If you’ve never recycled before, the beginning of the year is the perfect time to begin. The process may seem daunting to you if you’ve spent your life simply throwing your waste in the trash, but the first step is often the hardest. Incorporating simple steps at first is a great way to start your recycling journey.
Read below for some easy tips for working toward a sustainable lifestyle.
Grab a “twin bin.” A twin bin goes next to your regular trash bin, but is instead for recyclable materials. Consider labeling the bin with what can and cannot go into recycling. The one below, courtesy of the city of Knoxville, is a great resource.
Next, take stock of your personal waste habits and set realistic goals on what you think you can and cannot do. The goal isn’t to be perfect, but to be mindful of your own shortcomings and work toward more planet conscious habits.
A simple mistake people often make is forgetting to rinse out recyclable materials with food or drink waste. This can result in the entire batch of recyclables being thrown away and your work is for naught. Remove batteries as well; those will result in the same.
Plastic bags can’t be disposed of in recycling, so consider buying a reusable tote for your shopping excursions. Bonus: they’re much more stylish than the plastic bags the grocery store is going to provide you (and they probably aren’t going to rip, leaving your eggs and other perishables wasted on your sidewalk. We’ve all been there.)
Don’t expect yourself to be perfect; taking these first steps is a commendable initiative toward a better planet for us and for future generations.
Happy New Year!
